Where the 1% Don't Go

When you think of Naples what do you think about? For many this is home. For many this is where they were born, grew up, went to school. This town is where many people had their first experiences. Some may have had their first kiss at one of the parks, at the pier or even in the parking garage at the mall. Naples is where many people got their first job being introduced to the work force probably in either construction or hospitality.  Many still work those jobs. See you, what the rest of the world sees is a luxury destination but for the hardworking people who live and work here it's home.

Time and time again articles pop up stating Naples is the number one place to go for a high end experience that revolves around the million dollar stigma here. Places you can go and spend thousands of bucks on one outfit or a single dining experience. Don't get me wrong, change and growth is good but I find that the working class is being left by the wayside because of articles like the ones  found at JustLuxe. So in response here are some places more suitable for the working crowd to just go blow off steam and have fun after breaking neck to take care of the "luxury travelers".

Where to Stay:
If you're limited on cash there are a few places to stay while you're here. As you may know the weather is usually beautiful all year round so what better place to stay then the great out doors! There are plenty hidden campgrounds off the beaten path. Be sure to bring your Gator Nate approved bug repellent though. Depending on the time of year and area the mosquitos could carry a small dog off if you're not carful. If camping isn't your forte there's always the option of the all but lost sport of couch surfing.

Where to Dine:
If you're looking to grab a bite to eat at a reasonable price at a place that cater to the locals there's always The Twisted Spoke or The Parrot. Both places have great food and a fun environment to go blow off steam from the average work week. You could also hit South Street for a bit of entertainment and some awesome pizza from their in house stone oven.  Of course there's always the possibility of catching a few fish to munch on instead of spending the money.

Attractions & Shopping:
If you took some of the penny saving tips above you probably have a few bucks to spend. You could spend said money at Breaktime for a couple beers and games of pool along with great company. There's bowling if you're up to it or you could sit and watch all the bowlers with a big ol' pitcher of beer a Woodside Lanes or Beacon Bowl. Looking for a new outfit? Check out one of the many fine thrift stores in the area. You'd be surprised what you may find. If all else fails you could always head to 5th Ave for a night of people watching or plan a day at the beach. The people who travel here have no idea who you are so make up a story and have some fun!

In conclusion, keep in mind that if you are part of the lower to middle working class there is plenty to do for cheap or next to nothing. Just because the rich travelers have a choke hold on Naples doesn't mean they dictate everything about the area. Some places are holes in the wall. Some are hidden away but all these places are what helps keep this town going all year long.
